NLANR/MNA International CollaborationsThe NLANR Active Measurement Project (NLANR AMP) has a joint research/engineering focus with site-to-site active measurements and analyses conducted between campuses connected by high performance networks. The data collected by AMP has proven to be a valuable resource for network analysis to study the network and derive performance models for various aspects of Internet traffic. We have expanded our AMP network in recent years to include strategic sites outside the U.S.; these sites comprise the NLANR AMP International mesh. Organizations in 28 countries currently host (or are in process to host) NLANR AMP machines. As can be seen in the above map, this infrastructure is virtually world-wide, covering six continents; the deep brown color denotes countries hosting NLANR AMPs and/or have AMP mesh projects of their own. The NLANR AMP team is also participating in, or coordinating with, several important NSF-sponsored efforts that involve international networks, including GLORIAD, PRAGMA, TransPAC2, and WHREN-LILA (formerly AMPATH). NLANR/MNA has been well known as a neutral third party for many years. This has facilitated cooperation and trust across many different organizational and national boundaries. For more information, please see links below. We also welcome inquiries via our feedback form (link at the bottom of the page, and in the navbar to the right).
BackgroundNLANR/MNA's international collaborative efforts began with just two AMP machines located internationally in 1999, and proceeded very cautiously over the next few years. While remaining low-key, efforts to place AMP machines at strategically important international sites were kick started as a result of our hosting of an NSF-funded High Performance International Internet Services Workshop (HPIIS) workshop in August 2001. In 2004-2005, the growth of our International Collaborations and the NLANR International AMP mesh has greatly accelerated. Our international reach is quickly expanding as research organizations outside the U.S. become aware of the benefits of collaborating with NLANR AMP. For more information, please see the following:
